Uluru (Ayres Rock) Conference 2021

April 28 - May 4, 2021  [Cancelled due to Covid travel uncertainties]

Reflex interstate border closures have made running this event impractical so I have reluctantly cancelled, all monies received from the potential delegates have been refunded.

With the restrictions on international travel due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I have a completely different event planned for 2021.

Uluru is one of those places that has always been on my bucket list. A place I've always said I should visit but never been that motivated to do it.

I finally got around to it and must say it is definitely worthwhile. It's quite a magical experience. Beautiful and interesting with quite a spiritual feel about it. I now understand what all the fuss is about. Together with Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), it's a great experience and not one to be rushed.

The event will be run over a six-night stay starting mid-week on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. This is a great time to visit the area which can get unbearably hot mid-summer and quite cold in winter.

Sails in the Desert is a first-class resort and really the only practical base to explore the area. Accommodation options in the complex comprise 5-star hotel rooms, 4-star one or two-bedroom apartments, and 3-star rooms. There are excellent conference facilities and restaurants. It's a very nice resort.

Optional activities include a must-do 'Sounds of Silence'  dinner experience; Segway tours around the 12 km circumference of the rock; walking tours or drive around tours of the rock; sunrise day trips to Kata Tjuta (Olgas) including the Walpa Gorge walk or more strenuous Valley of the Winds walk; day trip 4wd tour to Mt Connor with dinner; scenic flights over the area. I will have these as options in the packages.

As always the formal academic program will include a variety of talks scheduled to fit in with the social and networking aspect of the conference.

Getting to the resort is easy. There are direct flights to Ayers Rock Resort from all capital cities and the quick transfer to the resort from the airport is included in all accommodation options.

Lectures will be held over 4 sessions. The usual start time for these is 4pm.

The actual program will evolve over the coming months and will include a variety of talks. Over the 7 days of the conference friendships naturally form as we have the common denominators of eye care and skiing at heart. There will be networking opportunities and a chance to reflect on your mode of practice and return to work with a clean outlook... the best of therapy.

There will be a range of first class speakers at each conference. For details email John:  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

CPD points will be applied for Australian Optometrists. Other groups can apply to their various professional associations for CPD.

Uluru  [Ayers Rock]  April 29, 2021. [Covid Cancelled]

Furano Japan, March 5, 2022

Unfortunately, the uncertainty of interstate travel due to the fast-changing Covid related restrictions has meant the cancellation of the Uluru event in it's intended form. Quite a few of the delegated who had booked are still going along and it's a very worthwhile trip. All others have been fully refunded any deposits made.

I'm hoping that by March 2022 it will be possible to again travel to Japan and the event scheduled for Furano on March 5th is ready to go if this is the case. Furano is in central Hokkaido [Japan's northern island] and traditionally has excellent snow conditions late in the season with a massive snow base.
